At the 50-bed upazila health complex in Nabiganj, there have been allegations of widespread irregularities and corruption in the supply of food to patients at the will of the contractor.
Poor quality food supply, less fish, meat and oil than required are reported. It has also been alleged that food is being given as per the contractor’s wishes instead of the amount of food that is supposed to be provided to the admitted patients.
According to health complex sources, bread 244 grams, rice 400 grams, oil 40 grams, meat (khasi) 254 grams, chicken (desi) 282 grams, fish (rui, katal, mrigel) 282 grams, fish (grasscarp) per capita per patient. , Silver Carp, American Rye) 338gm, Pangus 423gm, Vegetables 350gm, Onion 50gm, Garlic 20gm, Cumin 5gm, Ginger 5gm, Bay leaf 5gm, Cardamom 10gm, Cinnamon 10gm and Clove 5gm. There are rules to do.
On investigation, it is known that the patients are supposed to be supplied with meat three days a week and fish four days, but meat is supplied once in 10 days. Also broiler chicken. On the rest of the day, pangas and tilapia fish are replaced with rooi, katal and mrigel fish. Although there is a rule to give the fish to patients without the head and tail, it is not being followed. The amount of bread served at breakfast is less. Instead of thin rice, patients are fed coarse and inferior rice. Patients generally do not want to eat such low-quality food.
In the presence of the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and Nursing Supervisor, preparation for cooking the supplied material is said but not done. The concerned contractor supplies the goods as per his wish. Meanwhile, the patients are given pangas and tilapia instead of broiler meat and roe fish instead of khasi meat, but the contractor is raising the bill of khasi and roe fish as per the government rules. It has been seen on the ground that although the food list of the patients admitted to the hospital includes roe fish, the patients have been given pangas and tilapia fish and eggs.
Laila Haque (55) of Kandi village in Upazila Mandar, who was admitted a week ago, said that she did not give us any meat even on one day of the seven days, she gave us pangas and tilapia fish and eggs with two meals of thick rice and rice every day. You can’t eat the same thing so many times.
Sabina Yasmin (25) of village Timirpur in front of Sadar Union, Nahida Begum (22) of Gujakhair village of the same union said that since 4-5 days, the condition of food is very bad.
Hospital cook Runa Akhtar said that there is no list of patients’ food here. We cook and deliver whatever the contractors give. Runa Akhtar, the cook of the hospital who is in charge of food, said that even after repeatedly asking the contractor to give food to the patients as per the rules, he is still providing food as desired without any concern.
Officer (RMO) Dr. Champak Kishore Saha said, Dr. Abdul Samad Sir’s statement is my statement.
When Abdul Aziz, the contractor who supplies food to the hospital, was contacted on his mobile phone, he hung up the phone after introducing himself as a journalist but did not receive the call after repeated attempts.
In this regard, Nabiganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abdul Samad told that the hospital is providing food to the patients according to the food list. If there is any irregularity in food supply, necessary action will be taken after investigation.
