A privately-owned tea factory in Habiganj has suffered massive fire damage.

A terrible fire broke out at the Lalchand tea factory in Chunarughat on Saturday morning. Two units of the fire service brought the fire under control with the help of tea workers after an effort of about one and a half hours.

The fire started around 9:30 am. The fire destroyed lakhs of kgs of tea in the packing warehouse besides the valuable machinery of the factory. Gardeners claim that at least 50 crores of rupees have been lost.

According to sources related to fire service and garden, the locals suddenly saw smoke in the factory around 9:30 am. Instantly, the flames spread to the surrounding area including the factory and packing warehouse. On receiving the news, 2 units of Shaistaganj and Habiganj of fire service brought the fire under control after an hour and a half with the help of locals.

Initially, it is believed that the fire started from an electrical short circuit, but the actual cause can be confirmed after the tests, said the people of the fire service.

Mofazzal Hossain, manager of Lalchand tea garden, said, “I cannot say now how the fire broke out.” Extensive damage has been done. However, the amount of damage cannot be specified yet.
